Open Banking Specifics in Cyprus

# Authentication flows and SCA

Cypriot banks primarily use redirect-based authorisation flows for Open Banking. Most ASPSPs require users to input their online banking credentials before completing Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) using mobile apps, SMS OTP, or hardware/soft tokens. Support for automatic app-to-app redirection on mobile devices is generally not available across Cypriot banks.

# Payment Specifics

All major Cypriot banks support SEPA Credit Transfers (SCT) in EUR (Euro) via their Open Banking APIs. Domestic EUR payments are supported as standard. Instant SEPA Credit Transfers (SCT Inst) are not yet widely supported.

# Bank of Cyprus

Bank of Cyprus uses redirect-based authentication that requires input of the users' credentials in the bank's portal.

# Eurobank, including ex-Hellenic Bank

Hellenic Bank was fully acquired by Eurobank Cyprus in 2025, and as a result of a merger later that same year, the "Hellenic Bank" brand was discontinued. However, there still are two separate Open Banking systems being maintained after the merger.

Eurobank uses redirect-based authentication that requires input of the users' credentials in the bank's portal.

Enable Banking also has support for PSUs that had open accounts with Hellenic Bank since before the merger, available via a separate integration.

# Alpha Bank

After redirect to Alpha Bank Cyprus users authenticate using credentials and approve the operation through either a push notification in the mobile app or a combination of SMS OTP and ePIN.
