Open Banking Specifics in Liechtenstein

# Authentication flows and SCA

Liechtenstein banks predominantly use redirect-based flows for Open Banking authentication. Banks typically implement SCA through their mobile banking applications using biometric authentication (fingerprint, face recognition) or security codes, combined with the national eID.li digital identity system offered by the state of Liechtenstein.

# Payment Specifics

Liechtenstein banks support SEPA Credit Transfers (SCT) in EUR (Euro) through their Open Banking APIs, as Liechtenstein participates in the Single Euro Payments Area. This makes cross-border euro payments as simple and inexpensive as domestic payments.

SEPA Instant Credit Transfers (SCT Inst) are supported by major Liechtenstein banks, enabling real-time transfers of up to €100,000 that are processed within seconds and available 24/7/365. The instant payment infrastructure provides near real-time settlement between participating banks.

Additionally, some banks may support payments in Swiss Franc (CHF) due to Liechtenstein's close economic ties with Switzerland, though EUR remains the primary currency for SEPA operations.
