Open Banking Specifics in Latvia

# Authentication flows and SCA

Latvian banks rely primarily on redirect flows for Open Banking authentication. Common authentication mechanisms used by banks in Latvia are Smart-ID and eParaksts mobile. Automatic app switching is generally not supported by Latvian banks and input of credentials such as personal code and/or phone number is required on the banks' open banking login pages prior to SCA.

# Payment Specifics

All Latvian banks support SEPA Credit Transfers (SCT) in EUR (Euro) via their open banking APIs. Also support for Instant SEPA Credit Transfers (SCT Inst) is widespread, as most Latvian banks have adopted SCT Inst and typically process eligible payments instantly.

# Citadele

Citadele provides a fully functional PSD2 API supporting the redirect authentication flow. Both Smart-ID and eParaksts mobile can be used for SCA. Automatic app switching is not supported.

# Sandbox Availability

Citadele provides a sandbox environment suitable for end-to-end testing including authorisation flows, account information retrieval, and initiation of payments.

It is available through the Enable Banking API's sandbox environment. Please refer to the Sandbox Credentials section for the credentials to be used for authentication in the Citadele sandbox.

# Luminor

Luminor provides an open banking interface that supports redirect authentication flow with Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) handled using Smart-ID or eParaksts mobile. Automatic app switching is not supported.

# Revolut

Revolut uses the redirect authentication flow with SCA performed either through the Revolut mobile app (when authentication is initiated from on the device where the mobile app is installed) or through the combination of the PIN, approval via the Revolut mobile app and the code sent via SMS. On the devices where the mobile app is installed, the automatic app switch is supported.

# SEB

SEB provides an open banking interface that supports redirect authentication flow with Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) handled using Smart-ID, SEB Mobile App, eParaksts mobile, eID card, or Code calculator. Automatic app switching is not supported.

# Swedbank

In Latvia Swedbank supports both redirect and decoupled authentication flows. Strong customer authentication is normally performed using Smart-ID or eParaksts mobile. Desktop users are redirected to the bank's login page. Automatic app switching is not supported.

# Sandbox Availability

Swedbank provides a sandbox environment suitable for end-to-end testing including authorisation flows, account information retrieval, and initiation of payments.
