August’s Changelog brings a follow-up on last month's certificate story, a new disruption view on the ASPSP status page, a closer look at how Swedish account numbers work in our API, plus the usual integration updates across Europe.

Significant Changes and Updates

A Follow-Up on Certificate Renewals

Here's a quick update from last month. It's essential to allow yourself plenty of time when renewing PSD2 certificates since obtaining a new one with the right information on it may take longer than you expect. There are a few things that are beyond your control which can cause the process to slow down; for example, the certificate provider might change ownership or stop operating, or the trust list might not have been updated yet. Therefore, renewing early is necessary to ensure a smooth transition before the current certificates expire.

Visibility into Reported ASPSP Disruptions

When bank outages occur, we want you to find out quickly. We've added a new section to the ASPSP status page in the Enable Banking control panel, alongside the existing monitoring data. It's organised into three sections. Ongoing disruptions are the ones currently affecting connectivity. Planned disruptions cover maintenance windows, migrations, and upgrades scheduled in advance. A historic view keeps past disruptions on record for reference. So you can react quickly when something's wrong and plan around maintenance windows before they happen.

Swedish BBAN precision

Swedish national account numbers follow the bank clearing number + account number scheme. Although not fully harmonised across banks, most banks use this format when referring to domestic accounts in their open banking APIs. 

For more information about Swedish national account numbers, their account types and the conversion method to IBAN, you can find the reference page here (in Swedish) maintained by Bankinfrastruktur i Sverige AB (BSAB), the organisation managing many agreements for the Swedish payment infrastructure, including the structure for account and clearing numbers.

When the Enable Banking API is used to communicate with an ASPSP in Sweden, the BBAN account identification scheme always assumes a format consisting of the bank clearing number and the account number assigned by the bank. That matters in particular when using the Enable Banking API to initiate domestic account-to-account payments in Sweden ("payment_type": "DOMESTIC"), because creditor and debtor accounts can be specified using the BBAN scheme for all integrated ASPSPs. Enable Banking handles the conversion between that format and the format expected by the specific ASPSP's open banking API.
