Significant Changes and Updates
Access to Card Accounts in Italy
We’ve expanded our Account Information Services (AIS) coverage in Italy, with a particular focus on card account support.
For many of our partners, comprehensive coverage is essential. That’s why we’ve been working hard to unlock access to credit and prepaid card accounts across major Italian institutions.
This update introduces enhanced card account support across several banks using CBI Globe's PSD2 compliance solution, as well as a dedicated integration for Finecobank.
Newly Supported Brands and Authentication Flows:
BPER Banca Group (BPER Banca, Banco di Sardegna, Banca Cesare Ponti): Card accounts are now accessible via two authentication methods: "Servizi digitali Smart" or "Area Riservata Carte".
Poste Italiane (Postepay): Both personal and business accounts are now supported, with different authentication flows depending on whether the card includes an IBAN or is a prepaid nominal card.
Iccrea Group (Carta BCC, Numia): Card account access is now available, with a variety of authentication methods depending on the user's setup, including Push OTP, Chip OTP, SMS OTP, and Photo OTP.
Finecobank: Card accounts are now available alongside existing payment account access.
Banco BPM & Bibanca: Full card account coverage for Banco BPM is now available, along with dedicated support for Bibanca card accounts.
Nexi: Expanded integration to include support for the YAP brand.
Ongoing Work and Market Limitations
While this is a meaningful step forward, PSD2 coverage across Italy is still evolving. We will continue expanding support across additional card accounts.
Not all Italian banks currently support access to credit card accounts through their PSD2 APIs. For example, institutions like UniCredit, Banca Mediolanum, and Crédit Agricole do not currently expose credit card accounts in their open banking interfaces.
To help you navigate these limitations, we’ve thoroughly documented account type coverage per bank in our Open Banking Specifics for Italy.
Looking Ahead
This is not the finish line. Our compliance team is actively engaging with banks that currently restrict access to card accounts. We continue to advocate and remind institutions of the European Banking Authority's (EBA) guidelines, which stipulate that online-accessible accounts covered by a credit line should be made available to TPPs.
We're committed to delivering the most comprehensive Open Banking coverage in Europe. Expect more positive updates in the near future as we continue to push for broader card account accessibility in Italy and beyond.
New 'Get a Quote' Form for Tailored Pricing
We've introduced a new "Get a Quote" form for prospective clients looking to work with Enable Banking. The form is designed for users who are not yet onboarded (and do not currently have access to billing accounts). The form makes it easy to request tailored pricing and prepare a contract for the Enable Banking API.
The form adapts dynamically based on conditional logic to ensure a seamless experience, adjusting fields based on your input. The form guides you through a simple set of questions and ensures only relevant fields are shown.
To provide an accurate quote, it captures key details across six areas:
Usage Estimates: Your projected volumes for accessed accounts and initiated payments for Account Information Services (AIS) and Payment Initiation Services (PIS) for the 1st, 12th, and 24th months.
Countries of Operation: The markets where you plan to launch or operate.
Regulatory Setup and Use-Case: Whether you operate under your own license (AISP/PISP) or require a partner setup. The dynamic field adapts to your choice (such as specifying your type of license and approval status).
Agreement Effective Date: When you expect to begin live operations.
Company & Contact Information: Required business details for necessary risk evaluation and sanctions checks, along with your primary contact person's information.
This update is designed to make the initial contracting phase more straightforward and allow us to provide faster, more accurate pricing based on your specific setup.
